Some of the good things about them are that they do not affect O2 levels in your aquarium, they do not carry parasites, they do not create waste, they are fairly easy to clean and remove, and they do not need special lighting,
The disadvantages are that these artificial plants don't absorb CO2, they don't give off O2, they don't absorb toxins or carry bacteria, and they cannot be used as a source for food. It is for these reasons as well as others that some people do not prefer them as aquarium plants.
