Aquarium fish
If you are looking into choosing your very first aquarium
fish, you may want to pay special attention to the kinds of fish that
you are buying. The fact is that there are some types of fish that are
definitely easier to care for when you are a novice than others.
For example, there are many of the smaller schooling fish that are
ideal to those just starting their aquariums. Included in this group
of fish are White Cloud Mountain Minnows, the several commonly available
species of Danios and Rasboras, and Barbs.
These are best for smaller tanks. If you have a tank that is a bit larger,
you should remember that rainbowfish are fairly easy to care for as
well.
It could be a temptation to get one of a number of different kinds of
fish, but this practice should be avoided. Schooling fish nearly always
are better-adjusted when they are able to interact with other fish that
are similar. When all is said and done, it is nicer to see fish in their
natural behavior with like species than it is to see many different
types of aquarium fish that are all unhappy because they are not able
to socially adjust.
There are not a lot of hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing
aquarium fish. You certainly can do some mixing and matching and a little
bit of experimenting if you please. However, it should be remembered
that the more you do to move fish in and out of the tank will increase
the likelihood that the fish will not be happy and thus may not be able
to properly adjust.
The main thing to remember if you are a beginner is that you should
do what is going to bring you as well as your aquarium fish some happiness
and joy. The happier you are with your fish, the more likely you will
enjoy the aquarium.
